From the magical days of 1952 and also featuring Harry Harrison, Maurice Gutwirth, and Bob McCarty (his work is this collection’s highlight, with a fine story in every single issue). Crossing horror and SF has never been more enjoyable. Completes the series, including a classic “drowning cover” and the iconic “man with no eyes” Saunders cover & eyes-ripped-out story in the last issue! Publisher Fawcett was the Captain Marvel powerhouse of the 1940s. But when horror came along, they wholeheartedly embraced it and gave EC a run for its money during the short-lived tenure. Bob McCarty is not what you would consider a big name artist of the pre-code, but nonetheless each story of his is exceptional. He can be confused with the also-excellent Bernard Baily, who also embraced pre-code horror and did some hugely popular work. McCarty could draw it all, with finesse, as he shows here: sideshow freaks, devils and demons, murderers, lunatics…exceptional work that makes you want to read every story.
