Description
Wonder Woman, arguably the best-known female superhero in the world, was introduced in the early 1940s in these quirky tales written by the inventor of the lie detector, psychologist William Moulton Marston. In these stories, Wonder Woman travels from Paradise Island to Man’s World, where she battles both common criminals and supervillains like Cheetah and her first nemesis, the Baroness Von Gunther. Her magic bracelets and lasso of truth stop injustice, but usually not before she is tied up again and again, one of Marston's favorite tropes. These stories introduce the mythology of Wonder Woman as she battles the powers of evil, from crooked business owners to Nazi spies. The stories are fun and different, not falling into the typical cliches of many of the Golden Age heroes. Marston's undeclared wife, and later a female assistant, wrote many of these stories and they have a women's viewpoint, to be honest, rarely seen in other comics. They have a charm and naiveté that is fun. Today, especially with the 2017 film and its sequel, the interest in her original comic books has exploded. Issues all the way up into the 1960s are selling for multiples of Guide. Her first appearance was in All Star Comics #8, then she became the cover feature from Sensation Comics #1 until past issue #100. Comic Cavalcade was a bonus-sized title, 96 pages, like the early World's Finest. Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and The Flash starred on every cover and inside in individual stories. She was finally granted her own title, appearing in all three each month...and her own title is essentially still going, 75 years later. - Bud Here, for the price of just one later issue, is her complete oeuvre, 32 impressive 64-page issues (and her stories from anthology titles, where she got her start) covering exactly 60 complete adventures! Collects All Star Comics #8, Sensation Comics #1-24 and Wonder Woman #1-7, and Comic Cavalcade #1-5.
