Weird adventures into horror and the supernatural from Quality Comics Group’s premiere title. And an amazing FOUR complete stories by Jack Cole — some of the wildest and weirdest pre-code work EVER. Cole’s work was a high (or low?) point of pre-code horror!! While EC and Harvey were doing THEIR thing, Quality had their own take on ghosts, skeletons, the undead, and the damned. Other artists: Charles Cuidera (Blackhawk), Bob McCarty (forgotten but good artist) and John Forte, who became a mainstay post-code at Atlas and ACG. Cuidera was one of the creators of Blackhawk and went on to work at DC for many years afterward. Forte was a regular in Stan Lee’s Atlas titles. Jack Cole is the stand-out creator here, creator of Plastic Man as well as girlie cartoons for Playboy, but here doing horror as over the top as anything appearing in comics. Fun stories include “Death Prowls the Streets,” “Valley of Horror,” “Killer from Beyond,” and “A Pact with the Devil” — all by Jack Cole. More tales include “The Timepiece of Terror,” “Demon Inferno,” “The Shrunken Heads of Dr. Death,” “The Face from Hell,” “The Walking Dead” (really), “The Brain that Wouldn’t Die,” “The Subterranean Beast,” and of course, “Buried Alive.” This has been meticulously compiled from the original source material and painstakingly digitally restored. First done as a hardcover volume in 2015, which collected issues #8-14. So this has slightly different content than that volume.
