Hall of Fame comics creator Wallace Wood's revolutionary witzend has been called the birth of the pro-zine, underground, independent... but all agree witzend was a mid-'60s milestone event, freedom from censorship with creator rights. Wood kicked it off and invited his artist friends to participate. And he dominated the first few issues with fine all-new work. For the first time ever, ALL of Wood's witzend work: the adventure strip Animan, the sexy Sally Forth, The Rejects, Bucky Ruckus, Pipsqueek Papers, The Wizard King, Snorky, Lunar Tunes, and more. Nudity. Editor David Spurlock adds commentary throughout the book to put many of the illustrations in proper context. This add greatly to understanding of Wood's life and work during this time. Wood was also working on Marvel's first issues of Daredevil and redesigning his costume to the present day red/black design; writing and drawing much of the THUNDER AGENTS line; kicking off Sally Forth, etc. Wood's Spawn of Venus is one of the rarest EC stories, done for EC's 3-D title. Its a knockout, displaying a more mature Wood style and it's here complete.
