Description

Modern illustration master Gianni opens the vaults to his work on the legendary Prince Valiant Sunday Page, written by Mark Schultz. Gary Gianni assumed the helm of the strip after John Cullen Murphy but far too few fans have seen his several years of pages, let alone the amazing work behind the published pages. Every aspect of the new era of the strip is covered here, with a particular focus on Gianni's preliminary sketches and production methods. Every page is bursting with rough pencil sketches, reference photos and, best of all, finished, inked renderings. Printed with more advanced techniques than most newspapers use, these sketches offer you far more depth and clarity. Includes two full color fold-out pages, which give you two of Gary's finest (and most fantastic) Sunday pages, full-sized! Gary also tells the story of how he came to draw the strip, and thereby discusses and illustrates much of his previous work and special projects, such as Robert E. Howard's Conan limited editions, as well as his early, little-seen work. One note, the pages are actually drawn in a vertical, tabloid format. But most papers run them horizontally, actually deleting at least one panel. Here, once again, is your chance to see the entire Sunday pages, complete and as they were intended by Gianni and Schultz. Includes an insightful introduction by Robert Wagner, the actor who played Prince Valiant in the 1950s film. Signed and Numbered (823/1000). In a slipcase. Out Of Print. Condition: Fine. Dustjacket has a 3" white streak running up from the bottom. The slipcase covering is lifting from the top and bottom edges.
