THE EC ARCHIVES Crime Patrol Volume 1

Presenting tales of horrific crimes, grisly murders, and bizarre homicide cases featuring the artistry of Johnny Craig, Sheldon Moldoff, Ann Brewster, and Stan Ashe. Obviously EC's version of the highly successful Crime Does Not Pay. Introduces “Captain Crime” and contains at least one werewolf story, a hint of things to come at EC! One of EC’s very first titles, from the "Pre-Trend" era of comics first published by M.C. Gaines, and then by Bill Gaines after his father's death in 1947. Issues #1-6 were International and International Crime Patrol. With issue #17, the title would change again to Crypt of Terror…after three issues, the name would change yet again to the most famous horror title in comics: Tales from the Crypt. It would run from issue #20 to #46, in parallel with Haunt of Fear and Vault of Horror. Here’s where it all begins. Also including artwork by H. C. Keifer and Ed Walden. Johnny Craig is the stand-out artist here, as you can see his talent already clear, before he would go on to do the horror host The Vault Keeper and the lead stories in Vault of Horror, as well as editing Extra and more for EC, and then working for Warren's Creepy and Eerie magazines in the 60s and early 70s, and also for Marvel Comics.
