THE AMERICAN MAGAZINE 1890-1940

The American Magazine: 1890-1940 was the second installment in a series of five Learning Museum exhibits at the Delaware Art Museum, all centered on the theme "Popular Culture through Visual Literature." Supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Learning Museum Program targets a diverse audience with exhibits and activities linked to the museum's collections. The 1979 exhibit focused on the magazine's influence in American society, offering a comprehensive exploration of its cultural significance, complemented by a lecture and film series, discussions, and interpretive performances. Additionally, it featured an 8-page special edition titled "Discovery: An Illustrated Magazine for Young Folks.

The watercolor cover illustration is by John Bayalis. John Bayalis was also exhibitor in the Delaware Prizewinners show and recipient of a 1980 Artist Independent Fellowship from the Delaware is Council.
