SUSPENSE COMICS #7 Facsimile Edition

Another rare issue from very unusual publisher Continental, featuring a classic L.B. Cole cover and some very fine stories inside. "Bedlam" by John Giunta. Giunta took a young Frazetta under his wing for Frank's first comic work; you can see the influence here. "Mr. Nobody's Clue Corner," by L. B. Cole. "Curse of the Copperhead," by George H. Appel. "The Sands of Time" by Nina Albright. "Sherry Flippe," art by future Atlas artist Tony Di Preta. "Murder Is On The Air" starring Spirit rip-off, The Grey Mask, by Maurice Del Bourgo. "Caligstranno the Great," by Jack Alderman. "License for Murder," art by the excellent Rudy Palais. Continental published very few titles, but they get a lot of attention these days for the rarity and appeal of their cover art. Over 12 issues of Suspense, there are classics by Alex Schomberg (#3, with the KKK and bondage) and L.B. Cole (#8 with a spider-web and more bondage, and #10 and 11 (also available in facsimile in this series). They feature strange groping hands and the Devil! The excellent woman editor Rae Herman is speculated to have edited this issue as well as most others; she went on to edit and write for Orbit/Story, who published Love Journal, Love Diary, Wanted and Westerner. These were four more exceptionally good titles, in this case from the late 1940s and early '50s. Continental also published this hit list of more key 1940s titles: Captain Aero, Cat-Man, and Terrific.
