Description

Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo chronicles the adventures of a masterless samurai rabbit (a “ronin”) in feudal Japan as he wanders from town to town looking to earn his keep. In his wandering, he often encounters much more than he bargained for, getting caught up in sword fights, mysteries, and even unlikely romances along the way. (If Pixar and the late Akira Kurosawa were to collaborate on a movie, it might very well look like this.) Featuring iconic anthropomorphic characters, gorgeously rendered settings, exquisite plotting, and tongue-in-cheek humor, this series is a treat for all ages. Stan Sakai began his career by simply lettering comic books while he perfected his art and began working in the industry. He also wrote and illustrated The Adventures of Nilson Groundthumper and Hermy, a comic series with a medieval setting influenced by Sergio Aragones's Groo the Wanderer. The characters first appeared in Albedo #1 in 1984 and were subsequently featured in issues of Critters, GrimJack, Amazing Heroes, and Furrlough. However, Sakai became famous with the creation of Usagi Yojimbo, the epic saga of Miyamoto Usagi, a samurai rabbit living in late-sixteenth and early-seventeenth-century Japan. This collection features 9 issues of the Usagi Yojimbo comic book series by Stan Sakai: Fantagraphics: #1 & 2 (color special), 11, 30, 31, 33, 35; Dark Horse: #55 & 78. Out Of Print. Condition: Fine. Cover and edge wear. Some lightly bumped corners.
