SHOCKING MYSTERY CASES Volume 1

Six amazing, crazed covers are here by the great L.B. Cole, whose cover art has become key wants for the pre-code horror era. Most of the stories in these Star Comics were reprints from Fox issues, such as Murder Inc, Crimes by Women, Thrilling Crime Cases and Crime-Fighting Detective. None of these titles have yet been reprinted by PS, so this is their first appearance. The first installment of Shocking Mystery Cases, has every page of every issue digitally enhanced and faithfully reproduced including all ads and covers. As you can see, while the title read "mystery," the stories were mostly crime comics from a few years back. L.B. Cole loved to put his own spin on the covers, so in light of the popularity of horror, many of the covers have a more horror, or at least very violent, theme to them. Nothing here for Wertham to like, for sure. The Fox crime stories were already very violent and over the top, as was always the case with Fox, pushing extremes in all their titles.
