A run of stories from this incredibly scarce, obscure title which today sells for many multiples of Guide value. And one of the odder heroes of the Golden Age, whose early adventures were by Jack Kirby, himself a youngster!!! With a whole host of enemies including Chief Skullface, the Fox, Frankenstein, Funnibone, the Green Mummy, the Tiger Lady, the Laughing Head and the Terrible Midge, among others, the Black Owl had plenty to keep him busy! Doug Danville was a wealthy New York playboy who decided to fight crime. He put on a costume and began his career as K the Unknown. He later changed his costume and became the Black Owl! Belittled by private investigator Terry Dane, he continued fighting criminals as the Black Owl -- until he enlisted in the Army and handed down his costume to Walt Walters, the father of Yank and Doodle, who became the title feature a few issues later. Beginning with #7, the Owl was the cover feature of these issues. I never expected to see this run collected; every one of these issues is scarce. I've been looking for a copy of S&K's first issue, #7,  for decades. So it's a real treat to have them all here in sequence! - Bud Collects Black Owl stories from all 17 issues, 1940-41. This is some of Kirby's very earliest work in comics; with #7 Jack and new partner Joe Simon took over the artwork and drew it from #7 to #9. The cover of #7 is by S&K. Our boys went quickly on to create Captain America, the Boy Commandos and hundreds more wonderful heroes and groups. This is some of their most obscure and hard-to-find work, collected here at last in full color.
