PRE-RAPHAELITE ART AND DESIGN

The author, Raymond Watkinson's aim in writing this book was to show how critical a part of Pre-Raphaelitism played in making Dante Rossetti (a poet),the artist he was. Rossetti was a member of what we know as the "Brotherhood", a group of English artists who came together in 1848 influencing the Pre-Raphaelitism movement, and  defining it as a new authentic English art on strictly a visual base.  He was one of the  three most influential members of the group which included Willian Hunt, and John Millais; four others members were William Rossetti, F.G. Stephens, Thomas Woolner and James Collinson. Watkinson concentered Pre-Raphaelitism as a movement arising against a background of stalled change elsewhere and in a European context. Although Madox Brown was never a member of what we know as the "Brotherhood", he really was the most important influence of this movement. Included is 113 illustrations with 24 of them in full color.
