PRE-CODE CLASSICS SPACE ACTION & WORLD WAR III

Ace Magazines’ two short-lived titles, with additional contributors Ken Rice, Bill Molno, Rocco Mastroserio, and the legendary Mike Sekowsky of JLA fame, who became a go-to artist at DC. Collects Space Action #1-3, 1952; World War III #1-2, 1952-53. The latter boasts an atomic bomb blast cover; #2 was used in Parade of Pleasure. All five issues have outstanding Lou Cameron artwork, including his iconic, highly collectible covers for Space Action #1, used as the cover here, and #2. World War III is one of a very unusal sub-genre of comics. Filled with tales of “future” combat, atomic bombs and nuclear weapons, flying soldiers and advanced weaponry as imaged at the beginning of the Atomic Age. Space Action is an above-average sci-fi title, competing with the great books that Ziff-Davis was producing, such as Amazing Adventures, as well as DC’s newest titles, Strange Adventures and Mystery in Space. It nicely updated the more old-fashioned work in Fiction House’s long-running Planet Comics with more modern sci-fi that kids of the early 1950s could relate to. Out of Print. Condition: Very Fine.
