Description

This wonderful collection is the first 3 volumes of POGO The Complete Syndicated Comic Strips Collection, by Walt Kelly, the second-most requested strip collection reprint in Fantagraphics' history. Volume 1 collects 1949 to 1950. Volume 2 collects dailies from Jan 1, 1951 to Dec 31, 1952, and Volume 3 collects daily strips from 1953 and 1954.

Volume 1 - Pogo Through The Wild Blue Wonder introduces such enduring supporting characters as Porkypine, Churchy LaFemme, Beauregard Bugleboy, Seminole Sam, Howland Owl, and many others. And for Christmas, 1949, Kelly started his tradition of regaling his readers with his infamously and gloriously mangled Christmas carols. Volume 2- POGO Bona Fide Balderdash collects dailies from Jan 1, 1951 to Dec 31, 1952, and the full color Sunday Pages from Feb 11th, 1951 to Dec 28, 1952. Plus: cool special drawings from the original artwork,  Plus "Swamp Talk" by R.C. Harvey, and a Kelly biography. Volume 3- POGO Evidence to the Contrary. It's in this volume (featuring another two years' worth of Pogo strips) that we meet one of Walt Kelly's boldest political caricatures. It includes daily strips from 1953 and 1954. This was the first time anywhere (scanned from original syndicate proofs, for their crispest and most detailed appearance ever), this also contains all 104 Sunday pages from these two years, presented in lush full color for the first time since their original appearance over 60 years ago - plus the usual in-depth "Swamp Talk" historical annotations by R.C. Harvey, spectacular samples of Kelly's work scanned from original art, and a whole lot more! These beautiful illustrated blue clothed book comes with an illustrated dust cover (See the blue book in the gallery). Out of Print. Condition: Very Fine.
