PLANET COMICS Volume 12

Heroes and villains on far flung planets, drawn by Lily Renee (now drawing The Lost World), Joe Doolin, Fran Hopper (Gale Allen), Murphy Anderson  (Star Pirate), Lee Elias (now doing Space Rangers), John Celardo, and Jack Keller. John Celardo joins Planet's regular artists. Celardo went on to draw the Tarzan syndicated newspaper strip in the 1950s, as well as being the lead artist for the pre-code comics line from Standard. Lee Elias became a mainstay over at Harvey starting around 1949, doing countless covers and lead stories in all their titles -- horror, romance, and his best-known character, Black Cat -- up to and beyond the comics code in 1955. Fran Hopper jumps (get it?) around from one feature to another, but settles down on Mysta of the Moon in #37 and #38. Fran and Lily Renee, of course, are the two stand-out female artists in a man's world at the time, but they do a bang-up job on everything they tackle.
