PILOT OFFICER PRUNE'S PICTURE PARADE

In the 1940s everybody knew what a prune was - he was a dimwit. And perhaps the most well-known one of the day was Pilot Officer Prune, the popular cartoon figure used in the RAF's training manual, Tee Emm. Against the backdrop of the Battle of Britain, Percy Prune was instrumental in teaching pilots how not to do it - and cartoonist Bill Hooper gave them a much needed smile along with their instruction.

Fifty years later, Bill's Picture Parade looks back on Prune's creation and his development as a persona not only within the RAF but throughout the Allied Air Forces.
