Four more wonderful 64-page issues packed with features from Army and Navy: the Sniper, Blue Tracer, Death Patrol, Atlantic Patrol and of course, continuing the very first stories of Blackhawk and his team. Military began in 1941, just the same time as Police Comics, which featured Plastic Man by Jack Cole and more wonderful early strips. These two titles were powerhouses for the Quality group, and more than 100 issues of each would eventually appear. Dave Berg is doing brilliant work on Death Patrol. Berg of course went on to be a Mad Magazine mainstay. Al McWilliams had a long career in comics, doing pre-code horror in the 50s and the wonderful sci-fi syndicated strip, Twin Earths. Even here his work is exemplary, with wonderfully accurate renderings of battleships, bombers and fighter planes. Chuck Cuidera shines on his co-created Blackhawk stories, but his run is about to come to an end as he heads off to WWII and Reed Crandall begins his long and successful run on Blackhawk in Military #12 and in Blackhawk's own title. - Bud
