MASTER COMICS #10 Facsimile Edition

Cover feature is Bulletman, plus Devil's Dagger, El Carim, Zoro the Mystery Man, Buck Jones, Lee Granger: Jungle King, Capt. Venture and the Planet Princess (attributed to Raphael Astarita), and Red Gaucho, by the great Harry Anderson -- and much more. Master was an oversized title like Jumbo until issue #8, so now it's just settled into its new regular comics format until Capt. Marvel came along in issue #22 as the new lead feature. Published just prior to the U.S. entering World War II. Fawcett was a step above the early Golden Age lines -- they were already a successful magazine publisher, and they had more capital to spend on their books than the typical comics publisher. They got the best illustrators, such as Raboy, C.C. Beck, Marc Swayze, Charles Sultan, George Tuska. And they developed superior heroes and heroines, aided by the fine writing of both Otto Binder, Robert Reed and others. Capt. Venture, the sci-fi series, has been attributed to artist Raphael Astarita and that's probably correct. Mac Raboy has not started in the title quite yet.
