Mississippi River - In 1861, the United States is on the brink of civil war. Upstate resident Jim Cutlass is on his way to New Orleans to take over a farm he inherited. Once there, it turns out that he is to share the farm with his beautiful cousin. Cutlass shoots her fiancé in self-defense. He must escape ... Only after the Civil War does he return, now as a lieutenant in the victorious army of the Northern States, to assume his inheritance. But the old conflicts are still alive.

Der man Aus New Orleans (The Man from New Orleans) -The young Lieutenant Cutlass is ordered to investigate a fire on a cotton plantation. His investigation takes him through all the taverns and brothels in the lively nightlife of the southern town of New Orleans.
