Jesus Blasco, a solid illustrator who reminds us of Syd Shores, draws one of the best of the 1950s Western comic strips done in Britain. Bill Cody was Chief of the Scouts to General Custer's 7th Cavalry at Fort Abraham Lincoln in Dakota Territory. The series was featured in The Comet from 1953 to 1959. Presented here is some of the finest pen and ink work by Jesus Blasco from 1954 and 1955. Unusually for that time the Indian adversaries were conveyed with understanding and admiration. Introduction by Diego Cordoba. Blasco was a Spanish creator working in the UK; he also drew "Steel Claw" for Valiant "in a hyper-realistic style that influenced many young British artists -- chief among them, Brian Bolland, who cites Blasco as a major influence." In 1966 Blasco drew "Danger Man" for Lion, based on the TV series starring Patrick McGoohan. In 1968 he adapted H. Rider Haggard's "Montezuma's Daughter" for Look and Learn and "The Indestructible Man" for Jag. In the 1970s, he worked on horror magazines in the U.S. for both Marvel and Warren. From the 1980s to 1994, he drew the popular Italian western Tex, which is currently coming out in collections from another publisher.
