A wonderful wartime series, usually 10 full pages in each issue. This lovely actress-turned-agent was a mainstay in Fight for many years. Created by a true legend in the industry, Nick Viscardi, later known better as Nick Cardy, he stayed with the series for eleven adventures. Renowned artist Lily Renée’s first Rio adventure is here and she is most strongly associated with the character, being one of the greatest female comic artists in the history of the business! Bonus features: "Blackout" Pages with leggy, negligee-clad pin-up girls by Cardy and others, eight double-page sections; and five Lily Renee original pages, b&w but reproduced in color to show blue lines and pencils, facing the original color pages as printed. When compared to the many other spy comic series that came and went in the Golden Age, Senorita Rio survived eight years in a male-dominated world due to her extraordinary skills, her marksmanship, and her athleticism...she was "The Queen of Spies"! Fabled Aquaman and DC Comics artist Nick Cardy solos on all the stories #19-28; with #29 Art Saaf joins him; with #30, Arnold Hicks takes over; Alex Blum joins Hicks in #33;   And in #34, Lily Renée takes over the character. Since this is volume 1, we expect Volume 2 will feature all the rest of the lovely work by Renée, one of the finest women artists in comics in the 1940s and a mainstay at Fiction House. Aside: Fan and film producer Dave Armstrong just recently produced a short documentary on Lily Renée, filming her in her New York apartment where she is in her nineties but still well and even doing artwork. She eventually came to New York City, and as a talented youngster, she applied for a job with Fiction House and was immediately doing work for them! Senorita Rio remains among her favorite work.
