Drawn & Quarterly's significance as a comic book publisher is evident in these oversized, full-color, beautifully produced paperbacks featuring the work of cartoonists and illustrators from Europe and North America. Volume 3 includes the 1998 Monsieur Jean album, Vivons heureux sans en avoir l'air, in its 55-page entirety—the album's only publication in English and the only Monsieur Jean album available in English at its full French album size. Other contents include work by Blutch, Seth, and 31 early Gasoline Alley Sunday pages by Frank King, among others. This volume provides both a sense of comics over the last 75 years and an idea of where the medium is heading. The star of this issue is the seminal cartoonist Frank King, creator of the long-running newspaper strip Gasoline Alley. Included here is a piece written by King about Gasoline Alley, along with 30 full-color Sunday strips from the '20s and '30s.
