Dorian Vallejo has been selling copies his book, Drawings Inspired by Life, with an original drawing or painting for years. What he didn't expect is that the original art created for his collector's editions would later become their own independent body of work: this book! It is the collection of all the original artwork Dorian has produced for Drawings! Each one features a young teen-aged or 20-ish girl or woman: pensive, drawing, painting, reading, on a phone or iPad, lounging, eating, dressing, with a small handful of nudes. The book's foreword is written by the artist and illustrator, teacher and friend, George Pratt. Born into an artistic family, Dorian Vallejo's career began when he started illustrating book covers as a student at the School of Visual Arts, in New York. As the field increasingly began to incorporate the use of computer-generated images, Vallejo felt the need to pursue other avenues with his art. His love of traditional media and the human figure drew him to portraiture and to focus more intently on his personal work, which he shows in galleries and online.
