Description

All of the original, offbeat adventures from the 1960s in one massive omnibus! This was DC's version of the X-Men -- a rag-tag group as heroes. This fast-paced volume introduces The Doom Patrol; led by their wheelchair-bound chief, Niles Calder, three outcasts of society -- Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Robotman -- use the qualities that make them freaks to become heroes. The trio would take on bizarre menaces including General Immortus, the Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man and the Brotherhood of Evil! Wonderful art by the Italian artist Bruno Premiani, whose work elevated many DC titles well above the average. He co-created The Doom Patrol. Here is writer Arnold Drake talking about bringing Premiani on board, in a 2001 interview: "But his superb draftsmanship, anatomy and design work turned my prejudice to dust. Still, could he give the DP the unique quality it needed -- a quality I couldn't define myself? Bruno's first penciled pages told me we had truly lucked out. What he had recognized was that these super-heroes must be as human as possible. He captured that spirit from page one and sustained it for 42 issues: fabulous powers and fantastic enemies notwithstanding, The Chief, Rita, Larry and Cliff remained real people." One of the strangest superhero teams of all time, The Doom Patrol starred in a very successful Vertigo series in the 1980s, written by Grant Morrison. Collects My Greatest Adventure #80-85, The Doom Patrol #86-121 and The Brave and The Bold #65, 1964-68. Rush Service and International shipping could require an additional charge.
