DOLL MAN Volume 1

Created by the legendary Will Eisner (The Spirit). Collecting three beefy, 64-page issues. Beginning with #2, Reed Crandall took over and draws SEVEN different stories! John Cassone, best known for his sexy Black Angel in Air Fighters Comics, takes over in #3 and like Crandall, draws all the Dollman stories. Doll Man -- first published by Quality Comics -- follows the adventures of Darrel Dane, a scientist who creates a formula to shrink down to a miniature version of himself whilst retaining all of his strength. Doll Man's first appearance was in Feature Comics #27 (1939) and he proved so popular that he got his own quarterly title with Doll Man #1 in September 1941. He became the lead strip in Feature for more than 100 more issues, and his own title, this one, lasted until 1953, long past most other Golden Age superheroes. Doll Man was arguably the first miniature sized hero in comic book history -- DC's Silver Age The Atom and Marvel's Ant-Man were directly influenced by this mighty mite. DC had an Atom character in the Golden Age, but he was just on the short side, with no miniature magic going on. In these early stories, Darrell's girl friend Martha was often involved in the stories, threatened and tied up by bad dudes. As he proved later on at EC, Crandall could draw sexy women as well as Wally Wood or any other masters. Martha was often decked out in slinky low cut dresses, with curves that made her a knockout from day #1. Later on in the series, she would become Dollgirl and they'd even get a Doll Plane.
