Super Goof battles bad guys across the globe, including sinister Dr. Syclocks, the Tower of Pisa-stealing Super Thief, a freeze-dried Dr. Tempo, and the Beagle Boys, out to kidnap and resell an entire zoo (super-scoop: it’s harder than it looks!). Includes a two-page biography of Murray, and a new introduction by Joe Torcivia. Two years before the Batman television show, Dell editor Del Connell conceived the character in 1964, with the help of Chase Craig and Bob Ogle. "Disney Master Paul Murry was the natural choice to illustrate Super Goof, as a new addition to his well-established Mickey Mouse comic book continuum. The concept -- if not the character as he is best known -- of Super Goof made its on-sale debut in January 1965, in the second issue of Western Publishing's Phantom Blot series. Goofy accidentally drinks a beaker of super fuel invented by Gyro Gearloose and -- through a comedy of errors -- becomes convinced he has acquired super powers." The editors decided he had potential, so came Origin #2, where his super powers were actually created...in the form of a power-supplying cape. But then Origin #3 came along...Goofy's powers were now coming from Super Goobers, peanuts Goofy had grown in his backyard. The catch this time was the powers might never be the same, and could wear off at any time, their variable nature making for a wealth of comedic plot turn! Super Goof ran for 74 issues from 1965 to 1984 and actually continues to the present day with Europe's Giorgio Cavazano and Cesar Ferioli among the artists involved. He also made in onto TV in Disney's House of Mouse and the CGI-driven Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. A recent trading card game Disney Lorcana recently was released. Paul Murry After leaving the Disney Studio in 1946, he began to work for Western Publishing doing stories featuring the Disney characters. Dell Four Color #129 (1946) featuring three Uncle Remus stories penciled by Murry was the first comic book containing his artwork. Murry drew many Disney characters, including Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge, Brer Rabbit, The Sleuth, and others. The Phantom Blot and Super Goof comic books contained many Murry stories. Besides Disney, Murry also drew Woody Woodpecker comics, the 1951–1953 Buck O'Rue comic strip (written by Dick Huemer), and gag cartoons. He is best known for his rendition of Mickey Mouse, especially the Mickey/Goofy adventure stories, mostly in Mickey Mouse, and three-part serials in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories. Murry's first published Mickey Mouse story was "Mickey Mouse and the Monster Whale," in Vacation Parade #1 (July 1950). Murry next wrote a couple of Mickey Mouse stories for Dell's One-Shots: "The Mystery of the Double-Cross Ranch" in issue #313 (February 1951) and "The Ruby Eye of Homar-Guy-Am" in #343 (August 1951). Murry and writer Carl Fallberg began their run of Mickey Mouse and Goofy serials in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories with "The Last Resort", in issues #152–154 (May–July 1953). Murry and Fallberg continued to produce 3-part Mickey/Goofy adventures consistently from 1953 to 1962, and then occasionally from 1963 to 1972. When Fallberg moved on, Murry continued to draw single-part Mickey/Goofy adventures for Walt Disney's Comics and Stories and Mickey Mouse until 1984, retiring after more than 30 years of producing these stories. Murry died five years later, in 1989.
