Description

The origin and first SIX years of Barry Allen, the Silver Age Flash and one of DC's very finest titles from the time. Starting with his debut in 1956’s Showcase #4, this is the comic that began the Silver Age and led the new reimagined superheroes, first from DC and then from Marvel in 1961. This collection also includes the first appearances of famous Flash rogues including Captain Cold, Mirror Master, and Gorilla Grodd! Edited by the legendary Julius Schwartz, and written by veteran Golden Age and Silver Age writer John Broome (see on-going features on him in Alter Ego)...this was a thinking man's comic book. Schwartz was a long time science fiction fan and editor (Strange Adventures, Mystery in Space, Adam Strange, Green Lantern) and he and Broome preferred stories where the hero could think his way out of issues instead of using his fists. Truly some of the very finest stories of the Silver Age are here. Flash was such a respected title, DC decided to continue the numbering from the last issue of the Golden Age, #104 in 1949,. with #105 in 1959, after the four-issue tryout in Showcase.
