DC FINEST SUPERGIRL The Girl of Steel

The Girl of Steel is, next to Superboy, one of the most enjoyable and readable spin-offs from the Superman titles. For many years, she grew up hiding her existence from the world, as she went to school and grew up. So her mostly stand-alone adventures end up today being fun and readable, not enmeshed in the rest of the DC universe. Artist Jim Mooney was also terrific on the stories, offering us a sometimes bewildered teen-age girl living always under the shadow of her mightier cousin. I've collected Supergirl's adventures for many years and I find the stories hold up very well here, as I mentioned above. This includes her origin story in Action #252. She became a regular backup strip in Action, right after the Superman stories, long before she got her own title. This also includes her very first guest appearances in other titles of the era. Collects Action #252-288, Adventure Comics #278, Superman #139-149 and 144, Superboy #80, and guest appearances in Lois Lane #14 and 20, and Jimmy Olsen #40, 46, 51 and 57...all from the early Silver Age.
