DAREDEVIL COMICS Volume 1 Hardcover

Some of the rarest comics of the Golden Age! Here is the original 1940s Daredevil, created by Jack Binder. He was one of the few heroes to last into the 1950s, and this spawned the spin-off villain Iron Jaw, who in his day was as popular as Batman's The Joker. Publisher Lev Gleason began with the iconic Daredevil Battles Hitler #1 (July 1941), then DD appeared in Silver Streak Comics and quickly got his own title continuing with Daredevil #2, which will be collected in Volume 2. This was written and partially drawn by Charles Biro, who in his 16-year run would make the character one of the most acclaimed of the Golden Age. Silver Streak is an incredibly rare title, featuring Daredevil and also his nemesis Iron Jaw. This is wonderfully early work by Jack Cole, drawn before he jumped over to Quality Comics and created Plastic Man for Police Comics -- his signature character of the Golden Age. Don Rico took over the DD art in the later Silver Streak issues. As a child, Bart Hill was witness to his parents' brutal murder. The murderer also branded Bart with a hot iron, leaving a boomerang-shaped scar on the left side of his chest. This traumatic experience left the boy mute. He trained his entire life in the art of the boomerang, eventually becoming a master boomerang marksman. He then donned a costume and took to the streets as the vigilante crime-fighter known as Daredevil. However...  Bart Hill/Daredevil's second appearance showed him able to speak and it was later revealed that his parents were killed while in Australia, with Bart then raised by a tribe of aborigines who taught him the art of using boomerangs! Two origins!
