Yes, Goodman's stories often paid homage to the old EC Comcis (for instance, usually being narrated by hosts Uncle Creepy and Cousin Eeire, a la EC's Crypt Keeper and the Old Witch), and twiest endings as much as Gaines & Feldstein...but the Warren horror mags were more than a pastiche of a defunct comics line. The writing and art were less dense than their 50s inspiration, made crisper visually perhaps because of the stark black-and-white presentation, and the quality of drawing was often sublime, presented large courtesy of the magazine-size format.
