CORMAC MCCARTHY'S THE ROAD

The first-ever graphic novel adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, The Road, approved and authorized by McCarthy before his death, and illustrated by acclaimed French illustrator Manu Larcenet. The story of a nameless father and son trying to survive with their humanity intact in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where Earth’s natural resources are virtually wiped out. Some survivors are left to raise others for meat. The Road is one of Cormac McCarthy’s bleakest and most prescient novels. The art is powerful here, with fine line work that reminds us of both Bill Sienkiewicz and highly detailed woodcuts. It has a minimum of dialogue, revealing the story through powerful narrative panels, beautifully printed with just minimal colors. I could not put this down once I started it; it is superbly adapted and drawn by Larcenet. I am really impressed. It is grim…but riveting. Manu Larcenet is best known for the magnificent Combat ordinaire (Ordinary Victories) for which he wont the 2004 prize for best album at Angouleme. In 2023 he received the Gotlib Prize at the Paris Book Festival. He lives and works in France.
