Description

Beginning with Fantastic Fears and "Fiends From The Crypt" -- Chasing a thief named Banco into the Rome sewers, Signor Renzi and his partner, Pietro find Banco with all his body eaten. Then we have Haunted Thrills and "Death At The Mardi Gras"-- Marcus Kemp creates a robot duplicate so realistic he gets blamed for the murders it committed. HT #11 features a rare Nazi death-camp story. And finally, even more horror and suspense from Beware #15, all brought to you by those masters of 1950's comics Robert Webb, Myron Fass, Harry Harrison, A.C. Hollingsworth, Marty Elkin, Tony Tallarico and the Iger Shop. Fantastic Fears was a short-lived pre-code horror title from Ajax/Farrell. Steve Ditko did his first story for them, but not until issue #5 published in early 1954. Horrific was published by another small outfit, Artful/Comic Media, who used really grisly covers to capitalize on the pre-code horror trend. Issue #3 features a man with a bullet hole in his forehead; #4 a shrunken head; #7 a guillotine cover, #6 a Jack the Ripper story. Beware was published by another small outfit, Trojan/Merit from 1953 to 1955. Harry Harrison and a very early, very primitive Roy Krenkel show up in this title, along with Frazetta and Sid Check! Harrison is in one of the issues collected here and shared a studio with Wood in those days. He became a pretty big name sci-fi writer after he left comics.
