Tales of mystery have haunted the cinema since its beginnings. Cinema of Mystery examines the themes of Edgar Allan Poe's stories and their adaptations to the silver screen. In Cinema of Mystery, the stories include: "Quoth the Raven," "Evermore," "Rest Not in Peace," "Omen of Death," "The Beat and the Blade," "The Conqueror Worm," "The Track of the Beast," "The Haunted Palace," and "Himself the Undead." Several of Edgar Allan Poe's stories have also been adapted for film, including "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" (often considered the first modern detective fiction), "The Masque of the Red Death" (a chilling tale of a plague-stricken castle), "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Fall of the House of Usher," "The Pit and the Pendulum," "The Raven," "The Premature Burial," and "The Black Cat," many of which were directed by Roger Corman and featured Vincent Price.
