Joseph Calasanz (1557 - 1648), a Spanish Catholic priest and educator, founded the Pious Schools to provide free education for impoverished boys and established the Religious Order known as the Piarists. He was also a close associate of the esteemed astronomer Galileo Galilei and is recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church. The narrative of St. Jose de Calasanz is vividly depicted in a collection of 88 exquisite paintings by Segrelles, each presented as full-page illustrations alongside texts in Spanish, English, Italian, French, Hungarian, Polish, and Catalan. Included are 125 sketches and studies by Segrelles that complement the paintings. Text is in Spanish. Out Of Print. Condition: Very Good. The top of the front cover is bent and wrinkled all the way across and has a small tear along the top of the spine.
