James Bigglesworth is a wartime air ace and peacetime Sergeant in the Special Air Police, known to his friends and some of his enemies as "Biggles." Biggles became one of the most enduring figures in children's fiction of the last century and was created in 1932 by former Royal Flying Corps pilot, Captain W.E. Johns, whose own life – which included being shot down and becoming a prisoner of war – was pretty colorful itself!
