Description

Superman and Batman first teamed up in these stories from comics' Golden & Silver Ages, reprinted here for the first time in one massive hardcover. Frequent guest stars are Robin, Lois Lane, Commissioner Gordon and Perry White. The two heroes work together to battle crime in the past, present and future, including each other's greatest foes: Lex Luthor and The Joker! Wonderful, classic art by Swan and Sprang. Collects stories from New York World's Fair Comics #1-2 (1939 and 1940) and World's Finest Comics #71-96. 30 complete stories. DC put both our two heroes on the covers of World's Fair Comics, and quickly discovered how popular this was. So next they put them both on the cover and into World's Best #1, Spring, 1941. Then they quickly changed the title to World's Finest with the second issue, and went on to feature them there for decades. BUT--aside from Justice Society stories, Superman and Batman never worked together in a single story until Superman #76 in 1952--then not again until World's Finest #71 in 1954. Each always starred in his own, separate stories. #71-74 are the last pre-code issues. They agree to reveal to each other their secret identities, and the rest is history. These stories are fun and offbeat. These first cross-over issues are today scarce, since super heroes were on the wane back in the mid-1950s and other genres, like horror, crime and romance, were outselling our boys in tights.
