Description

EC fans, this is the one you need -- that includes me, I can't wait to read this. -Bud. The cover feature spotlights Angelo Torres, the youngest and last surviving EC Comics artist, who went on to a fabulous career as a horror, science-fiction, and humor artist for Atlas/Marvel, Warren, and MAD! Includes 12 newly imagined Panic covers in all genres and more What-If covers of Angelo's for Crypt of Terror, plus tons of his finest Atlas pages! Also My Life with Wally Wood by Ralph Reese and FCA presents Captain Marvel -- many time-travel stories. This issue features a lushly illustrated retrospective of Angelo Torres' still-ongoing career, a new interview, and a hand-written testimonial by Sergio Aragones. And a What-If cover for Incredible Science Fiction #36, his portrait of the infamous Fleagle Gang (Frazetta, Williamson, Krenkel, Woodbridge, Gaines, etc.) and much, much more. There is also a checklist of Angelo's comics work. What an issue! Torres frequently helped Al Williamson to make deadlines at EC and also at Atlas. His work shows the influences of both Frazetta and Williamson. As a young collector in the sixties, my buddies and I were all looking for Angel's work in all the old Atlas titles, before the price guide or any checklists. Just like we looked for Williamson, Wood, Frazetta and even Sid Check, we flipped through comic after comic watching for the hidden gems. Torres is one of the best. Angelo did yet another What-If cover for EC's Incredible Science-Fiction. It is reproduced in color as the bookplate that author Grant Geissman did for us to go with our copies of The History of EC Comics, which is still available from us.
