the-island-of-doctor-moreau-illuminated-editions
THE ISLAND OF DOCTOR MOREAU Illuminated Editions

The "gleefully blasphemous" classic of sci-fi horror. Human chimeras and deranged scientific curiosity come to nightmarish life through the brushwork of Bill Sienkiewicz in powerful, full page, full color illustrations. An exceptionally handsome edition from beginning to end, with the highest production values and the finest design by Maëlle Doliveux. Introduction by filmmaker and storyteller Guillermo Del Toro. Part of Beehive Books' ongoing Illuminated Editions series, presenting classic works in beautiful small-press editions.

The cover sports a wrap-around illustration with no text. The slipcase is a work of art on its own, with raised silver images, the vast ocean and clouds on one side, the head of a creature on the other. It also has a round die-cut hole to show off the book cover, as well as half-circles to make it easy to get the book in and out. Very impressive.

And the slipcased book is packed in yet another custom, clam-shell box, with additional artwork on the front, back and sides! What an amazing presentation! And it's a great book to read, too.

Del Toro is the director of Pan's Labyrinth, the first two Hellboy films, and 2017's Best Picture Academy Award winner The Shape of Water.

This edition is a companion to, and matches in size and format, two more books in the Beehive Books Illuminated Editions series: THE FAIRY TALES OF OSCAR WILDE, lavishly illustrated by Yuko Shimizu and designed by Maëlle Doliveux (due April, 2020), and THE WILLOWS and other short stories, lavishly illustrated by Paul Pope and also designed by Maëlle Doliveux (due September 2019).

Also in this series, but in a larger 11x17 size, is THE TEMPLE OF SILENCE: Forgotten Works & Worlds of Herbert Crowley. He did a Sunday page called The Wigglemuch, contemporary with and often appearing opposite Winsor McCay's Little Nemo--but it lasted for only ten months. And he did much more rather fascinating and unusual artwork. This is a full biography, and is available now. Check out his bio on Wikipedia and his work on Google/images.

We will be offering all three of these: the Crowley will be in shortly, the others can be reserved now.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0999/0684/7006/files/product_i_s_islah-island-of-doctor-moreau.jpg?v=1784477355
