tarzan-conqueror-of-mars
TARZAN CONQUEROR OF MARS

Mysteriously teleported to Mars just as John Carter once was, Tarzan searches for the one man who could show him the path home—The Warlord of Mars! I'm a huge fan of Murray's first Tarzan novel, Return to Pal-Ul-Don. And just like reading Return, I was sorry to see this new novel come to an end. It's really fun, nice and long at 460 pages. Murray captures ERB's style and voice very well. John Carter finally comes into play...in a major way...but not until halfway through the novel! I could elaborate, but no more spoilers. For the first half of the book, Tarzan 1) manages to stay alive, not easy, 2) explores the outer reaches of Mars, far from civilization, and 3) begins to meet the many denizens of Mars: White Apes, a Zitidar, Thoats (which he masters riding), and Green Martians.

But using his head and the amazing strength and the leaping ability of an earthman on Mars--just as John Carter found--Tarzan is making friends, making new weapons (he lost everything, even his father's knife, when he was teleported), gaining friends and followers, and learning how to survive in a very, very hostile world that has clearly seen better days. And then he finally runs into John Carter...but not as you would expect, not at all.

Featuring a wraparound cover by Romas Kukalis.

Wild Adventures of Edgar Rice Burroughs Series #9.

Review by Sal Graci

Jim Sullos and ERB Inc. have done it again with their latest offering of Tarzan: Conqueror of Mars by award winning writer Will Murray. As a lifelong fan of Burroughs’ Bronze Forest God, this is exactly the Tarzan adventure that I was hoping for! (And it’s set canonically in the original novels’ timeline about a year after the events of Tarzan and the Leopard Men, which I much appreciated.)
What I really love about this story is seeing Tarzan in savage survival mode and bringing all his super-heroic attributes to bear against incredibly daunting physical and mental challenges that Murray pits him against. Every new challenge showcases the Jungle Lord’s astounding strength (made even more powerful because of the Martian atmosphere), indomitable will and superior cunning, in ways that are imaginative and visually inspiring. Tarzan is at his epic best here battling the various colorful Barsoomian denizens and rising in their hierarchy to become a leader & master of his own mighty and eclectic horde that shakes Mars (and John Carter) to its/his core. Fans of John Carter will enjoy the strategic warfare that plays out between these two iconic characters as well as the inclusion of old and new characters from the overall Mars mythos.

Beneath it all is a story of a noble savage of exceptional morals & animalistic power that is fighting against all odds to get back to the people that he loves most in all the universe, his beloved wife Jane and his son Jack.
Long live Ramdar of Jasoom, Ape-lord of the Narag tribe and Jeddak of the horde of Churvash Ul!!

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0999/0684/7006/files/product_t_a_tarcon-tarzan-conqueror-of-mars.jpg?v=1784480906
