July 1940.\n\nYou can see by the covers, these have a pulp feel to the art and in fact Ace was also publishing pulp magazine at the same time. Ace of course would go on to become a huge paperback publisher, and their resurrection of Edgar Rice Burroughs novels in the early 1960s, with covers by Roy Krenkel and Frank Frazetta, kicked off both the 60s ERB revival AND Frank Frazetta's painting career! Here are their earliest comics -- they lasted into the 1950s and did important horror and sci fi titles.\n\nAnd of more interest -- here are big full page ads for Amazing Man and the entire comics line from Centaur...this was a competing publisher at the time. But they did share some artists, so perhaps the publishers came to an agreement to cross-advertise their books.
