It was a taste of the 1940s, but brought up to date to a modern time. Here was a comic that was nearly as cool -- maybe just as cool -- as those great Marvel titles coming out.\u003c\/em\u003e\n\nThe Spectre\u003cem\u003e never quite caught on, even though he made it into his own title for ten more glorious issues by the same fine creators. But...then he was resurrected by Fleisher and Aparo 15 years later. And those are really, very cool (read: controversial) stories. Even with the comics code, they managed to have the old Spectre, the one who stranded bad guys on distant planets, who could grow as huge as the earth itself, who had no qualms about squashing, dropping from great heights, or otherwise executing those who didn't deserve to live in our world! It was cool, it was retro, and these stories are still fun to read.
