The following day, Griffin spoke at the unveiling of a monument to the author’s military service in the Seventh Cavalry, at Fort Grant, Arizona Territory (1886-87). The memorial plaque is mounted next to the historic train depot where Burroughs caught a stagecoach to Fort Grant on May 24, 1896.
