By the mid-1940s, the strip was carried by 80 newspapers.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"mr-2\" data-controller=\"toggle\" data-toggle-class=\"d-none\" data-toggle-hide-link=\"true\"\u003eMcBride began \u003ci\u003eNapoleon\u003c\/i\u003e as a daily strip on June 6, 1932, for a minor syndicate called\u003ci\u003e Lafave Newspaper Features\u003c\/i\u003e. His Sunday strip was added on March 12, 1933, \u003csup id=\"cite_ref-Holtz_3-1\" class=\"reference\"\u003e\u003c\/sup\u003eand the following year, the title was changed to \u003ci\u003eNapoleon and Uncle Elby\u003c\/i\u003e.\u003csup id=\"cite_ref-toon_4-1\" class=\"reference\"\u003e\u003c\/sup\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-controller=\"toggle\" data-toggle-class=\"d-none\" data-toggle-hide-link=\"true\"\u003eWhile drawing such features as \u003ci\u003eMcBride's Cartoon\u003c\/i\u003e (1927) and \u003ci\u003eClifford McBride's Pantomime Comic\u003c\/i\u003e (1932), McBride introduced Elby, a character based on his uncle, Wisconsin lumberman Henry Elba Eastman.
