The ring could create dams to stop runaway rivers, giant hammers to swat threats out of the sky, an invulnerable shield, blinding light, a giant bow-and-arrow... Also: Cross-overs with the Golden Age Green Lantern, plus first appearances of Sinestro, Evil Star, Black Hand, Dr. Polaris, Star Sapphire and more.\n\nLater on in the series, including in several of these issues, \u003cstrong\u003eGil Kane\u003c\/strong\u003e wanted to flex his artistic muscles. He created brilliant one-on-one battles, many high in the sky, offering anatomy in movement the likes of which had not been seen since Burne Hogarth was doing Tarzan, or a polished Jack Kirby, honed to perfection of movement. Kane began inking his own pencils, which he'd wanted to do for many years, and that gave the stories an edge many fans loved.\n\nBut that's getting ahead of ourselves...in these issues he's still got inkers on his work, and oh, what inkers they were. \u003cstrong\u003eSid Greene\u003c\/strong\u003e worked on most of the issues here and they were a perfect combo. \u003cstrong\u003eJack Sparling \u003c\/strong\u003einks two issues, \u003cstrong\u003eMike Sekowsky, Joe Giella \u003c\/strong\u003edoes seven, we have a surprise appearance with \u003cstrong\u003eWally Wood\u003c\/strong\u003e on one issue, and \u003cstrong\u003eMurphy Anderson\u003c\/strong\u003e is another treat on the last three issues here.\n\nAnderson helped out on many of the covers and they are gems of the era. Marvel was doing their brilliant thing, and the lesser editors at DC were still cranking out mediocre stories of Superman, Lois, and others, but in the pages of Green Lantern, the limits of super hero imagination were being pushed into new realms. Nearly all the stories were complete in one issue.
