Parker mixed fashion and comics, also creating hand-made clothes for film stars like Lana Turner, Joan Crawford, Hedy Lamarr, Jeanette MacDonald and Dorothy Lamour, and here are the pictures to prove it! And the lovely and strong-willed Mopsy was an exact double for Parker herself.\n\nTarpe Mills and Dale Messick both dressed to kill and included paper dolls featuring their heroines’ chic 1940s wardrobes. Tarpe Mills and Lily Renee were fashion models before they drew comics. But Gladys Parker was a full-fledged fashion designer with a successful line of clothing while at the same time drawing an equally successful comic strip. John brought copies to San Diego Comic Con and was out of them very early in the show. Once people saw the book, they wanted it. It wasn’t the sales revenue I was missing out on, trust me. The point was that Reed Crandall has always been one of my very, very favorite comic book artists and illustrators, all the way back to when I first began collecting comics and Edgar Rice Burroughs books and fanzines in the mid 1960s. I really wanted so many more people to see his work and learn about his long and fascinating career. Looking at these pages as printed in this book is like looking at the pages fresh from Barks' drawing board.\n\nFive early stories from 1943 are printed one page to a page in the book with an image size of about 12.5 by 17.75 inches, the size that Barks drew his original art in 1942 and most of 1943. Beginning in December 1943, Barks started drawing in the larger size of 16 by 23.25 inches and continued to draw that size for the rest of his career, with only very rare exceptions. These pages are so large that in order to fit them into this already large book, it required printing each half page sideways on a single page so that if you turn the book sideways you can see each full page at the size it was drawn.\n\nEntirely printed from proofs which are derived from the 7x10 inch photo negatives taken of the original art between 1943 and 1947.\n\nBarks didn't make many mistakes that needed correction in his art.
